Janie Exner

Janie Exner welcomes clients to the experience of therapy with a warm and open attitude and an eagerness to join her clients in making sense of the challenges they face. With an emphasis on making a connection between how present day issues relate to past experiences, Janie helps clients connect the dots between past and present. She believes that by developing this understanding people can become empowered to choose which beliefs and behaviors they wish to change in order to create a more centered and satisfying life. Janie sees it as a privilege to guide her clients as they make this very personal journey.

Janie has a counseling style that focuses on the strengths clients bring to the table and includes a consistent thread of humor woven throughout treatment. Clients have told her that her non-judgemental yet direct communication style makes it possible for them to hear 'difficult truths' without becoming defensive. Her caseload over the years has been intentionally diverse, including men, women, active duty service members, veterans, LGBTQ clients, and individuals of all races and ethnicities. She is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with over 20 years of experience in a variety of professional settings and with a wide range of clinical issues. She brings a natural curiosity about human behavior to her work and is particularly passionate about working with couples dealing with complex relationship issues including infidelity, and adults who have experienced childhood adversity and are dealing with the after effects in their current lives.
